Klein Helps Junior Golf Team to Lead

Emilee Klein of Studio City and partner Kelli Kuehne of Dallas fired a one-over-par 73 Wednesday to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the Big Red junior team golf championship at McKinney, Tex.

Klein and Kuehne are at two-under 142, two shots ahead of first-round leaders Lisa Cornwell of Fayetteville, Ark., and Annie Deets of Lafayette, Ind.

The North Valley Criterium bicycle race, with prizes totaling $2,500, will be held Saturday in Granada Hills.

The racing will start at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Coast Federal Bank at 18000 Chatsworth St. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s San Fernando branch.

Carl McFadden and Joe Cascione of Western State Conference baseball co-champion Pierce College have enrolled at Cal Lutheran for next fall, Pierce Coach Bob Lofrano said.

Darrell McMillin, Ventura’s third baseman, is also planning to attend CLU, Ventura Coach Gary Anglin said. McFadden, a left fielder, and Cascione, a second baseman, were first-team All-WSC picks. McMillin made the second team.

Also, Valley College left-hander Steve Trainor has verbally committed to play at San Diego State.

Trainor, a 1989 graduate of Burbank High, was 4-6 this spring with a 3.60 earned-run average. He accounted for four of Valley’s seven wins.
