How’s this for a twist: Employees of the Radisson Hotel in Simi Valley will be putting fingerprints ON bathroom mirrors rather than wiping them off, for the weekend of June 21 and 22.

“We may also have cutouts of feet going from where the door is to a window that doesn’t open,” said Radisson’s Cindy Nielsen. “We’ll probably put little spyglasses in each guest room.”

It’s strange behavior, but not as strange as it sounds. On that weekend, the hotel has hired the actors of “Dial M Murder Mysteries” of Burbank to act out a murder and then investigate it. Guests (at least those who pay the $195 per couple to participate) will get to try their hands at being junior Columbos and Agatha Christies.

Just one question: What about the regular guests who just happen to be staying at the hotel in the midst of all this--won’t they be a little suspicious? “We’ll have a sign up that says, ‘Dial M Murder Mystery in progress’ so nobody panics when somebody dies,” Nielsen said.

If you would like to participate, call 583-4000. Reservations are already being taken and there will be a limited number of guests allowed.

Remember my Mother’s Day search for the official mom of Ventura County? It was grueling, often frustrating, but I finally found her. To my surprise, she was hawking autos at Mom’s Used Cars in Ventura.

I was basking in my success when I realized that Father’s Day is this Sunday. I’d better give the old guy his due, I figured, but the first search was an emotional roller coaster and time-consuming. I knew I had to plan better before looking for the official dad around here.

I pondered the problem for awhile and took a shot. If mom is in the car business, I thought, maybe dad is too. So I held my breath, nervously picked up the phone and rang up Pop’s Auto Wrecking in Ojai.

Glen Pegram, the owner of the place, answered. “Is there really a pop?” I asked. “Pops actually means Previously Owned Parts Sales,” said Pegram. My heart sank. He continued: “But people ask me that quite often. I guess I’m him.”

I, for one, was convinced.

Speaking of fathers of one kind or another, have you seen the PADRE Pest Control advertisement in the Ventura/Oxnard/Camarillo Pacific Bell Yellow Pages?

It reads: “FLEAS, ROACHES, ANTS, RATS, MICE, BEES--SPECIAL CARE WITH CHILDREN”

That last offer is particularly significant. Those little whippersnappers can be mighty tough to handle.

Congratulations to Port Hueneme native Elizabeth Ahl. A student at Emerson College in Boston, she was selected to participate in the Bucknell University Seminar for Younger Poets. She just began the monthlong program at Bucknell during which she will study with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Louis Simpson.

The Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Exchange is a program that gives business people a chance to mix and mingle with other business people. This evening’s get-together will be held at the Westlake Photo Lab.

They want to get you together and see what develops.
