San Marino : Tax to Boost Quake Safety
The San Marino Unified School District, its finances bolstered by the recently passed land parcel tax, will be able to spend $150,000 annually for the next four years for earthquake safety refurbishing of 10 classrooms at Huntington Intermediate School, officials announced last week.
The tax, approved by voters June 4, is expected to boost school district coffers by $500,000 a year for four years.
The Board of Education also decided Tuesday to retain one of three French teaching positions that were to be eliminated, Supt. Gary Richards said. Other money from the parcel tax will be used for salaries and programs, he said.
In addition, the district has received $60,000 recently raised by a group of parents who staged a revue called “Curtain Call.” The cash infusion will allow the district to continue its drama program and part of its dance program, Richards said.
