Different Readings of Library Dispute
Norman Tanis, former dean of libraries at CSUN, deserves much recognition, not demotion.
The dollar amount we are speaking about here is small potatoes when compared to the research value these books will have in the future and their prestige value.
Dean Tanis is a hard-working, dedicated, expert librarian. His administrative ability, literary and library knowledge and creativity to build the Oviatt Library and this fine collection of rare books for study and research will outlast us all, for books last forever.
Many collections he has gotten at absolutely no cost to the university, through his personality and persuasion. I personally gave my valuable 2,000-book “Little Blue Book” collection to the rare book department.
