Veteran jockey Lester Piggot was a winner Tuesday as the Royal Ascot meet opened.

Piggott, who came out of retirement at age 55, rode 7-1 shot Saddler’s Hall to a six-length victory in the King Edward VII Stakes.

Piggott has been leading Royal Ascot jockey 18 times since the first of his 114 winners in 1952, but this one gave him special satisfaction.

“It’s terrific; there is nothing better,” he said. “It’s great to be back at the Royal meeting, and riding a winner is extra special.”
