Pomona : Vendors May Be Frozen Out
The effect on the ice cream bar market may be chilling.
The Pomona City Council on Monday tentatively approved an ordinance that would ban pushcarts and vendors on foot and would give police the authority to seize and impound pushcarts.
The ordinance would make it a misdemeanor to sell food--or anything else--from a “humanly propelled wheeled vehicle.” City officials said they are concerned about the unsightliness of pushcarts and the loss of sales tax revenue from unregulated vendors.
The ordinance contains a provision that would enable the city to license pushcart vendors for limited special events. Final council action on the measure is expected July 1.
