Cerritos : $86-Million Budget Includes $20 Million for Arts Center
The Cerritos City Council is expected to vote tonight on its proposed $86,034,580 budget for the coming year, $20.8 million of which will go to complete the Community Arts Center.
The arts center expenditure explains why the 1991-92 budget is up more than $11 million over this year’s budget of $74.7 million, city officials said.
Located in the Towne Center redevelopment area, the arts center is expected to open next spring and will require 12 new city employees at a total salary cost for the coming fiscal year of $201,000. The employees will be hired at different times during the year as the arts center nears its opening. Total construction cost for the center is almost $50 million.
The proposed city budget, which includes $48.5 million in redevelopment spending, contains a reserve of $4.8 million.
