Ambassador’s Furnishings to Be Put Up for Sale

Furnishings from the defunct Ambassador Hotel, ranging from bedroom furniture to silver champagne buckets, will go on sale today in a liquidation ordered by the Trump Wilshire Associates, owners of the Los Angeles landmark.

Doors to the hotel, which have been closed to the public since Jan. 3, 1989, will be opened at 9 a.m., said sale organizer Frank S. Long. The sale will continue 45 days, or until everything is sold. Admission will be $2.

Items tagged to be sold include a baby grand piano used by Sammy Davis Jr. ($2,250), and silver food covers engraved with the Ambassador’s eagle-topped crest ($150). The hotel has been the subject of a tug-of-war between developer Donald Trump, who wants to build a high-rise project on the site, and Los Angeles school officials, who want to build a high school there.
