Ex-Navy Captain Heads Grand Jury
A retired Navy captain was appointed presiding juror of the 1991-92 San Diego County Grand Jury Wednesday by Superior Court Presiding Judge Judith McConnell.
Richard Macfie, 62, held commands in the Pacific Fleet and served five tours of duty in Washington during his 30 years of service, including posts at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and the Bureau of Naval Personnel. Before his retirement in 1981, Macfie also commanded three ships and a destroyer squadron.
As presiding juror, Macfie will appoint committee chairs and make assignments, supervise the Grand Jury’s investigations, direct the writing of its reports, chair hearings on possible indictments requested by the district attorney’s office and present the grand jury’s findings to the Superior Court.
“I am very honored to have been selected and look forward to the opportunity to use some of my management experience for the betterment of the community,” Macfie said.
Macfie and the other grand jurors will be sworn in June 28 at the downtown courthouse.
