Two men were arrested after a 35-minute chase that began in Valencia and ended in Pacoima, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday.

Mike Custer, 30, of Granada Hills and John Monteon, 36, of Littlerock were arrested on suspicion of burglary after the car they were in ran out of gas near Herrick Street and Van Nuys Boulevard, Sgt. Mitch Clark said.

Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull the car over at McBean Parkway and Arroyo Park Drive about 10 p.m. Tuesday in connection with a burglary earlier that evening at a nearby Miller’s Outpost store at 25830 McBean Parkway.

“The driver refused to stop,” Clark said. Instead, the car sped onto the Golden State Freeway and headed into the San Fernando Valley, he said. During the pursuit, a handgun and several items of stolen clothing were thrown from the car, Clark said.

The car left the freeway in San Fernando and continued until it ran out of gas, Clark said.

Clark did not say which man was the driver. The men were each held on $5,000 bail at the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station, he said.
