Following is a list of the five most severe air pollution penalties assessed by the South Coast Air Quality Management District in March, the most recent month for which information is available.
Company: Golden West Frame Co., 145 W. Meats Ave., Orange
Penalty: $2,500 and $500
Violation: Operating a paint spray booth and flow coating machine without a permit in November, 1990 (woodworking manufacturer).
Company: Nelco Products Inc., 1411 E. Orangethorpe Ave., Fullerton
Penalty: $2,500
Violation: Replacing an underground tank without obtaining a permit in May, 1990 (circuit board manufacturer).
Los Tarascos Furniture Manufacturing, 535 W. Walnut Ave., Orange
Penalty: $2,500
Violation: Exceeding coating and solvent usage limits in a spray paint booth and failure to post the proper permit to operate in December, 1990 (furniture maker).
Company: KZ Studio Division of G.W. Distributors, 540 Rose St., Anaheim
Penalty: $2,200
Violation: Operating a paint spray booth without a valid permit and failure to keep coating and solvent usage records between September and October, 1989 (auto paint and body shop).
Le Meridien Hotel, 4500 MacArthur Blvd., Newport Beach
Penalty: $900
Violation: Failure to obtain a permit to operate a boiler in January, 1991 (hotel).
