BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Free Agent Lyons Signs With Edmonton
Catcher Barry Lyons, who became a free agent when he refused an assignment to the Dodgers’ Albuquerque farm club, signed a contract with the Angels’ triple-A Edmonton affiliate.
Lyons, an unrestricted free agent, has a .236 batting average in his career. The Angels promised to recall him after he spends time with Edmonton. Lyons will join the Trappers Friday in Phoenix.
Lyons will be paid a prorated portion of the $220,000 salary he earned with the Dodgers. With the season slightly more than one-third over, that would amount to nearly $150,000.
Center fielder Junior Felix left Wednesday’s game after straining his right calf muscle, the same injury that put him on the disabled list June 4-18. The original strain occurred May 10.
