Kansas City Royal Manager Hal McRae was suspended for two games for bumping umpire Dale Scott.

An American League official said McRae has indicated he will appeal the suspension, so it will be delayed until the appeal can be heard.

The incident occurred during the 12th inning of a 4-3, 18-inning victory over Texas at Kansas City on June 6.

McRae argued with Scott, who was umpiring third base, after three consecutive close calls went against the Royals.

The Cincinnati Reds put left-hander Norm Charlton on the 15-day disabled list and recalled right-hander Keith Brown from Nashville. Charlton has tendinitis in his left shoulder and was placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 17. Charlton was on the DL from May 26 to June 11 with the same problem. The former set-up man in the Reds’ bullpen is 3-5 with a 4.25 ERA as a starter this year.

The Arizona Senate approved legislation to allow three counties to subsidize improvements at spring training parks through special taxes, and state officials hailed it as the salvation of the so-called Cactus League.
