West Hollywood was honored this week by the United States Conference of Mayors for AIDS services it has provided to residents since incorporating in 1984.

The city received a City Livability Award for its efforts. The award honors mayors and cities that develop programs that enhance the livability of their communities. Mayor John Heilman announced the award during Monday night’s City Council meeting.

“This award could not have been won without the compassion and the caring among the citizenry of our community,” Heilman said. “We are proud that we can serve as a model to other cities across the country who are struggling to provide support to their residents with AIDS.”
