California IN BRIEF : CHULA VISTA : Girl Missing From Home Found Dead

A 9-year-old girl apparently snatched from the doorway of her home was found dead in an industrial park, Chula Vista police said. The body of Laura Arroyo was discovered by two employees of a business in the complex, about three miles from her South San Diego condominium, Sgt. Alan Smith said. The girl suffered injuries to her head and upper body, he said. An autopsy was scheduled. The child’s parents, Luis and Laura Arroyo, told police the family was upstairs when they heard knocks at the door. “Laura said, ‘I’ll go get it,’ ” the mother told officers. “We thought it was her friends she had been playing with outside. After 10 minutes she didn’t come back, we thought, ‘How strange?’ So we went downstairs and the door was open and she was gone.”
