MASKED MAN: The Anaheim police SWAT team members who were coaxing out a barricaded man (B6) donned ski masks during the stakeout. . . . Why, you say? The masks do “a whole bunch of things,” says Anaheim Capt. Roger Baker. Some SWAT team members also serve as undercover officers, so the masks conceal their identities. The masks protect the skin if tear gas has been used to smoke out a suspect. And they break up the body’s silhouette. “It’s an old military technique,” Baker said, “that dates back to Hannibal.”
