Simi Valley : Woman Arrested in Club Embezzlement
A former treasurer of the Simi Valley High School Music Booster Club is suspected of stealing more than $10,000 from the group, police said Friday.
Jolane Goldberg, 50, of Simi Valley was arrested at her Cochran Street home Wednesday and booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of embezzling $10,560 from the club.
The thefts occurred between November, 1988, and February, 1991, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Don Austin. He said funds were reported missing on Aug. 15, 1990, after a new treasurer was installed.
An audit revealed that Goldberg wrote club checks to herself and deposited them into two personal credit union accounts, Austin said. The embezzlement was possible because no audits were conducted while Goldberg was treasurer, he said.
Kirk Jackson, a music teacher at Simi Valley High School, said the booster club, which is operated separately from the school, is made up mostly of parents and local graduates of the school. The club raises funds for band uniforms and activities, he said.
Goldberg was released from the jail after posting bail Wednesday.
