One Killed, One Injured in Crash on Freeway
An Arizona National Guardsman was killed and another was critically injured Friday when their military truck overturned in Pomona on the San Bernardino Freeway, authorities said.
The truck, hauling forklifts, jackknifed and overturned shortly before 3 p.m. on a transition road between the Foothill and San Bernardino freeways, California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Munday said. A motor home was also involved in the accident, but further details were not immediately available, he said.
The guardsmen, who were identified only as young officers from the 57th Armory in Phoenix, were trapped in the overturned truck when rescue crews arrived. One of the guardsmen was dead at the scene. The other was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, CHP Officer Joe Flores said.
