Driver Found Carrying $200,000, No License
A motorist stopped for speeding in Vernon didn’t have a driver’s license, but he did have an estimated $200,000 in cash that he couldn’t explain, the Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
The man, identified by a Mexican passport as Jose Luis Leon, 26, told authorities he didn’t know who the cash belonged to or whose car he was driving, Sheriff’s Lt. Gene Hetzel said.
Deputies took notice of the man as he was driving a 1988 Chevrolet Blazer north on Bandini Boulevard on Thursday night. They arrested Leon for driving without a license. Before a tow truck could arrive to take the vehicle away, they searched the car and found 26 bundles of cash.
