Moore Bides Time in Street Stock Triumph at Ventura Raceway
Paul Moore’s patience and driving skills led the Oak View driver to his second consecutive Street Stock 20-lap oval track main-event victory at Ventura Raceway on Friday night.
Starting in 10th position, Moore had moved up to second on Scott Olsen of Ventura by Lap 6. By Lap 10 the two drivers were heading into lapped traffic when Moore’s patience proved valuable.
Olsen attempted to blow by the traffic on the inside berm of Turn 4 while Moore held his course and slowed for a slight opening that led to him wresting the lead from Olsen.
Olsen was a distant second with Port Hueneme’s Jim Firsich and Culver City’s Bill Bartels taking third and fourth.
Mike Raschke won his first main event at Ventura in the 20-lap Mini Stock oval.
Oxnard’s Leonard Rowe dominated the Modified Mini Stock division winning the heat race and the eight-lap main event.
Mini Stock eight-lap heat race winners were Doug Thornton of Ventura, Jim Jewett of Oxnard and Joe Silva of Port Hueneme.
Oxnard’s Trish Remley drove to her first victory of the season in an eight-lap Street Stock heat race. Bill Changus of Camarillo and Firsich won the other heats.
