California IN BRIEF : REDDING : Stunt Plane Crashes Into Crowd at Show
A stunt plane crashed near a crowd of about 5,000 people watching an air show, killing the pilot and injuring at least six spectators, police said. Those injured in the crowd were hit by debris when the T-34 single-engine military trainer crashed about 3 p.m., said Police Lt. Chuck Byard. It had been flying in a four-plane formation. The injured were taken to hospitals, Byard said. The cause of the accident involving the plane flown by a pilot from a group known as the Brew Angels was not immediately known. The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating, Byard said. The Brew Angels, which imitate the kinds of moves made by the Navy’s Blue Angels flight precision team, were performing on the first day of the two-day Redding Air Show.
