RON HOWARD

I, being a longtime fan of Ron Howard, could not wait to start “The Truth About Ron Howard,” by James Greenberg (May 12). However, during the exchange about his old neighborhood in Burbank, I took exception to Howard’s statement that John Burroughs High School didn’t have any blacks when he was there. The paragraph before that he was shocked and awed that there was a biker living in his old house.

Ron, that biker in your old Burbank home could well be one of the many fine studio craftsmen who work on the very production you direct.

Those black students at Burroughs High School are most likely the sons and daughters of men and women who have integrated this industry as well as your old neighborhood.

Maybe the slight tinge of racism isn’t there, but if the feelings I get are real, I’m sorry, Opie: It’s a whole-wheat-bread world here in Southern California nowadays.
