Vista Man Badly Burned in Car Fire
A Vista man was in critical condition Sunday in the burn ward of UC San Diego Medical Center, after his car caught fire while parked in a carport.
Sheriff’s deputies said that Gustavo Alberto Reyes, 26, suffered burns over 20% of his body when his car inexplicably burst into flames. According to a sheriff’s report, Reyes was sitting inside the parked car and wearing a seat belt when the vehicle caught fire at 5:18 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 800 block of Newport Terrace Drive and found Reyes inside the car. The fire was quickly doused, and firefighters called the sheriff’s arson unit. Investigators were still trying to determine the origin of the fire.
