CHILD SUPPORT: Orange County has fewer deadbeat dads than other counties but still lags behind the national average for collecting court-ordered child support payments, says the advocacy group Children Now. . . . But Dave Himelson of the district attorney’s office says the 51% rate reflects only payments collected by the county and not checks exchanged between separated parents. . . . What’s more, states report the figures differently, so holding the county to the national average is “like comparing apples and oranges.”
