Benefits Raise $18,000 for Aged Activist Home

Sunset Hall, the home for aged activists in the Mid-Wilshire District, took an $18,000 bite out of its mounting deficit with two benefits in the past week, organizers said Monday.

A takeover attempt by a developer last year left the home for old firebrands with a deficit that mounted by as much as $8,000 a month. A garden party in Brentwood on Sunday raised more than $10,000 to go along with $8,000 raised at a rock concert Wednesday at the Music Machine in West Los Angeles.

“You don’t expect to solve your financial problems with events like these,” said Alison Morgan, who coordinated the garden party. “You hope to inform people who didn’t know about Sunset Hall and develop long-term friendship and support.”
