SURF DANGER: The first official weekend of summer ended with a drowning (B2), but county lifeguards have already plunged into their inevitable surge of rescues. . . . Last summer, just under 7,000 people were fished from five of the county’s busiest beaches (above), and lifeguards say rip currents are to blame for most of those rescues.

Surf rescues kept lifeguards busiest last summer at these county beaches, and July was their busiest month.
