San Diego State has reached an agreement with Arizona State for a four-year, home-and-home football series beginning in the year 2000, according to Fred Miller, SDSU athletic director.

Also, the Aztecs have closed a basketball deal with Nevada Las Vegas for a four-year, home-and-home series beginning this season.

In football, the Aztecs will host Arizona State on Sept. 2, 2000 to open the series.

“We want to see a lot of maroon (Arizona) license plates over here,” Miller said. “They’ll travel well.”

The Aztecs have already signed a four-year deal for a football series with the University of Arizona for the late 1990s.

“Outside of the LA schools, they are the closest Pac-10 competitors for us,” Miller said.

The Aztec basketball team will travel to UNLV Dec. 30, 1991, to open its series with the Rebels. The Aztecs will pass through Las Vegas on their way back from a game at Southern Utah State.

UNLV will then play in San Diego in 1992 and 1993 before hosting the Aztecs in 1994. The deal was worked so that UNLV will be here in 1993, the anticipated inaugural year of SDSU’s on-campus activities center.
