Newspaper Sued for Failing to Pay Overtime: The Philadelphia Inquirer has been charged with violating fair labor laws since June, 1989, and failing to pay overtime to employees who worked more than 40 hours in a week. The U.S. Labor Department filed a lawsuit against the newspaper in federal court, asking a judge to order the newspaper to pay back wages plus interest and all court costs. The Labor Department refused to say how many employees or how much money was involved. It also wouldn’t specify the workers’ jobs.
