Sewer and water hookup fees will be raised in Thousand Oaks to finance $51 million in new reservoirs, pump stations and other facilities, the City Council decided Tuesday night.

The council approved the fees by a 4-0 vote, with Councilman Bob Lewis absent.

The last time the city raised sewer and water hookup fees was in 1988, Utilities Director Don Nelson said. The increases, which Nelson said reflect an overall jump of about 8.3%, go into effect Sept. 2.

For single-family houses, the charge for sewer hookups will jump from $3,600 to $3,900. For multifamily dwellings, the fees will go from $2,880 to $3,120.

Charges for water hookups for a single-family house will rise from $2,100 to $2,280. For multifamily dwellings, the fees will increase from $1,575 to $1,710.

The council also increased charges for specific areas of Thousand Oaks.

For example, the city is planning a $5.8-million reservoir and pump station near Ventu Park Road. To pay for the reservoir, the city will charge a fee of $2,200 for every house built in the Ventu Park area.
