FULLERTON : Hearing Scheduled on 164-Acre Project
The Fullerton Planning Commission will hold a public hearing tonight to consider a plan by Unocal Land & Development Co. for a 164-acre residential and recreational project.
The project was stalled in September, 1989, after a group of Fullerton homeowners near the Imperial Golf Course urged the City Council to reject the company’s proposed extension of Placentia Avenue. The homeowners expressed concerns that the street extension would result in increased traffic and noise.
While the council did not vote to stop the project, they did tell Unocal officials at an October, 1990, meeting to come back with a more “friendly plan” that satisfies the concerns of nearby residents.
Dennis Chapman, southern region vice president of Unocal, said the revised plan for the Placentia Avenue extension includes a 16-foot landscaped median from Imperial Highway to Rolling Hills Drive. The expanded parkway will be 31-feet wide, with walkways, trees and drought-tolerant plants.
Chapman said linking Placentia Avenue with Imperial Highway to the north will help ease traffic for residents living along neighboring Kraemer Boulevard and Associated Road and balance traffic flow on those three streets.
