OXNARD : $47,000 Grant Will Aid Homeless, Poor
A $47,000 federal grant will be distributed to six social service agencies to aid Oxnard’s homeless and poor.
The City Council on Tuesday allocated $13,000 to the Ventura County Commission on Human Concerns for loans and grants to prevent homelessness, $10,000 to the county Health Care Agency for motel vouchers for homeless people and $9,000 to the Zoe North Hayes Avenue women’s shelter.
It also gave $7,000 to Oxnard’s National Guard winter shelter for the homeless, $7,000 to the Rainbow shelter for homeless women suffering from chemical dependencies and $1,000 to the McAvoy House for abused children.
Under the terms of the grant, which the city received in March, the council had until Sept. 11 to spend the funds or return them to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.
