A brush fire believed to have been caused by a spark from a car scorched five acres of land in the Trabuco Canyon area Wednesday afternoon, county fire officials said.

The blaze came as close as 200 feet to houses in the area, but none were damaged and there were no reported injuries, said Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman Kathleen Cha.

Fifty firefighters, along with personnel from the U.S. Forest Service, contained the “slow-moving” blaze in the grassy canyon at the border of Cleveland National Forest within two hours, Cha said.

Two people, who were not immediately identified, were arrested after driving their car into a closed section of the canyon at the end of Robinson Ranch Road near Pinnacle Drive and Stone Tower Lane, Cha said. The car may have caused a spark resulting in the brush fire, she added.

“That area is closed to public access and it’s so posted,” Cha said. Charges have not been filed pending further investigation.
