Buchanan on ‘Space Wars’
Buchanan would prefer to rely on technology rather than treaties to assure our security. However, he ignores the costs of such reliance: the risk of accidental war, continued proliferation of weapons of mass destruction as others attempt to gain security through power and the diversion of funds from the things that will buy us real security (education, health care, environment, etc.) into expensive military hardware. Haven’t we yet learned the lesson that we must run the risks that negotiations and treaties entail because those risks are lower and the rewards greater than following the old path of militarization?
