An honorary doctorate degree will be awarded to Harald Bredesen today by the California Christian Institute of Orange during commencement ceremonies at 3 p.m.
Bredesen has ministered to former Presidents Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter as well as international leaders such as Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat, the Shah of Iran and former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. He composed the prayer said by Carter, Sadat and Begin at the 1980 Camp David Summit and originated the Prince of Peace Prize first awarded to Sadat that same year.
The first recorded use of the term “charismatic renewal” was made by Bredesen, and he was instrumental in the beginning of that movement in America’s Catholic Church and carried it then to Austria, Yugoslavia and India. He is the author of two books: “Yes Lord” and “Need a Miracle?”
The ceremony will be held at Spurgeon United Methodist Church, 1025 W. Memory Lane, Santa Ana. Information: (714) 639-3961.
