O’Malley Gets Praise for How He Maintains Father’s ‘Gift’ to L.A.
I am surprised The Times would print the ax-grinding, resent-the-rich June 22 letter from Neil A. McCarthy.
I have known Peter O’Malley since the late 1950s when we were college students at the University of Pennsylvania. He was anything but spoiled. He worked very hard, lived conservatively and excelled at everything he did. What impressed us all was Peter’s genuineness, industry and honesty.
I am proud to say I know Peter today. I do not regard him as a Little Lord Fauntleroy as Mr. McCarthy suggests. He possesses the same qualities he did in college: inspired drive, high moral standards, commitment to excellence and sensitivity to people. He has devoted himself to maintaining baseball’s standards and keeping his father’s great gift to Los Angeles something everyone can be very proud of.
