Lukas Has to Right to Condemn Stevens
As an ex-racetrack handicapper and writer, I am disturbed at the attention given Wayne Lukas. Who is he to condemn Gary Stevens for a poor ride?
Lukas’ course record for caring for horses is abominable. Consider the fates of young racing stars revved up to win early but never heard from again, hosts of them breaking down.
What happened, Wayne, to High Brite, Landaluce, Saratoga Six, Capote, Marfa, Houston, Stalwart, Success Express, Benji King, Muttering?
And Jejano, Blush With Pride, Lucky Lucky Lucky, Althea, Life At The Top, Family Style, Lost Kitty, Total Departure, Balboa Native, Life’s Magic, Badgerland, War, Tank’s Prospect and Winning Colors? And many others?
Other trainers would have nurtured horses of this class. Old-timers never used horses in the manner of Lukas. His motto: Don’t spare the horses!
