Man Slightly Injured When Car Plunges 200 Feet
A Canyon Country man suffered only minor injuries when his car plunged 200 feet down an embankment in Angeles National Forest, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy said Saturday.
Harold Bramer, 23, was airlifted to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills after his car careened off Little Tujunga Road near Sand Canyon Road about 5:45 a.m. Saturday, said Deputy Bill Linnemeyer.
The driver, who suffered only scrapes and bruises, was treated at the hospital and released within three hours, hospital supervisor Gari Reed said.
“I don’t know how he survived this thing. It’s remarkable that he didn’t suffer more injuries,” said Capt. Bob Burkhardt of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Burkhardt oversaw the rescue operation. “There’s a lot of brush in there. It’s probable that the brush slowed him down.”
Bramer was alone in the car, Linnemeyer said. A motorist passing nearby saw Bramer’s headlights in the canyon and called 911, authorities said.
“He was lucky that someone saw his headlights, or I don’t know how else he would have been found,” Burkhardt said. “It was pretty foggy.”
