World IN BRIEF : CUBA : Double Agent Says He Infiltrated CIA
Cuba said that one of its intelligence agents infiltrated the CIA and provided information about an anti-Communist U.S. television station, Tele Marti. Jose Rafael Fernandez Brenes, 52, known as Agent Orion, returned to Cuba on June 12 after spending more than three years in the United States, where he was recruited by the CIA, the Cuban news agency Prensa Latina said. Cuban technicians jammed the incoming Tele Marti signal almost from the moment it started in March, 1990. Fernandez said, “Tele Marti was born jammed because from Washington we kept the Cuban government informed about the details of the project.” U.S. officials in Washington had no immediate comment.
