RETAIL/TOURISM : Disneyland Deals Itself In at Meeting of Sports Collectors
OK, OK, I’ll trade you a Mickey Mouse at bat in front of Splash Mountain for two Roger Rabbits tossing a football over the smiling floral Mickey face at the Disneyland train depot.
What’s this all about?
Disneyland has teamed up with the Yorba Linda-based Upper Deck Co. to produce a limited edition of Disneyland trading cards for the 12th National Sports Collectors Convention this week at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The colorful cards show a Disney character playing a sport against the backdrop of a Disneyland attraction. The attraction’s statistics are listed on the back. (Did you know that it takes 1,900 4-inch plants to create Mickey’s face in flowers at the park’s entrance?)
Each collector will be given one of the Disneyland cards when he buys a ticket to the convention. The entire five-card set can only be obtained by buying a commemorative passport to Disneyland at the convention.
Only 50,000 sets of the cards were produced.
