Monrovia : $1 Waste Fee Takes Effect
A new $1 monthly fee will show up on residents’ city utility bills this month, thanks to a state-mandated waste management program adopted by the City Council on Tuesday.
The fee is the result of a 1989 state law that calls for cities to study and reduce the generation of solid waste by residents and businesses.
It will cost the city $245,800 to implement the program this fiscal year, said Debbie Bell, acting assistant to the city manager.
The $1 monthly fee, coupled with annual business fees ranging from $10 to $743 depending on the type and size of the business, will fund the program.
