Bellflower : Special Levy Imposed for Street Light Maintenance
The City Council has voted 4 to 1 to impose a special levy on residents to pay for street light maintenance. The levy, which will take effect in November, could generate an estimated $500,000.
The property tax bill for the average Bellflower homeowner will go up by $23.88 a year, while the standard commercial building will have to pay $110.62, city officials said.
Councilman Joseph Cvetko cast the lone vote against the proposal. “It’s going to be another burden for the public,” he said. “(The city) is going to keep picking the pockets of the people. There’s never enough money. If you gave them (other council members) a million dollars, they’d spend it tomorrow.”
