Cerritos : Green Waste Recycling Program Extended Again
A pilot program aimed at introducing Cerritos residents to recycling green waste--grass clippings, leaves and branches--will be continued through October for 1,800 homes in the southern portion of the city.
The green waste program, the city’s first effort at curbside recycling, began last October and was to be tested for only four months. However, only 11% of the residents in the test area participated, and the City Council extended the program for another four months. Now participation has risen to 25%, according to city officials, and a third extension has been made in an effort to involve still more households.
