Fourth of July Events
Major changes in fireworks regulations were adopted last week by the California state fire marshal. Effective June 27, sparklers are no longer considered safe and sane fireworks. The penalty for using sparklers now carries a $500 to $1,000 fine, and / or six months in jail. Here are July 4 fireworks displays in a number of communities in the county. Fireworks displays are free unless otherwise noted. City of Los Angeles
Cabrillo Beach--Fireworks begin at dusk.
Hollywood Bowl--”L.A. Philharmonic Presents America the Beautiful,” with fireworks, dusk. Admission fee.
Pierce College--Fireworks begin at dusk. Admission fee.
Palisades High School--Fireworks begin at dusk.
Pacific Palisades--5K and 10K runs begin at 8:15 a.m. at the recreation center at 851 Alma Real Drive. “America Hails Its Heroes” parade starts at 2 p.m. on a two-mile route that starts on Via de la Paz and continues along Sunset Boulevard.
Cal State Northridge--Fireworks begin at dusk. Admission fee.
San Fernando Park--Fireworks begin at dusk.

Artesia--Artesia Community Park, 9:30 p.m., 187th Street and Clarkdale Avenue.

Whittier*--California High School, dusk, 8900 Mills Ave. Admission fee.
Cities with asterisks ban individuals from using fireworks. Other cities where individual displays, including sparklers, are prohibited: Agoura Hills, Arcadia, Avalon, Beverly Hills, Bradbury, Calabasas, Covina, Diamond Bar, Glendale, Hermosa Beach, Hidden Hills, Industry, La Canada Flintridge, La Habra Heights, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Monrovia, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Dimas, San Gabriel, Santa Clarita, Sierra Madre, Signal Hill, Vernon, West Covina, West Hollywood and Westlake Village. Duarte prohibits fireworks north of Royal Oaks Drive, except at Royal Oaks Park.
