WORLD IN BRIEF : SOVIET UNION : Shevardnadze to Quit Party, TV Says

Former Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard A. Shevardnadze, who has announced the formation of a new democratic movement, has notified the Communist Party he is quitting the organization. A report on Soviet television, monitored by the British Broadcasting Corp., said he had written to the Communist Party body responsible for disciplinary matters to inform them of his decision.
