Clippers Deal Third Pick to Knicks
The Clippers on Wednesday traded the rights to forward Joe Wylie, their third pick in the college draft last week, to the New York Knicks for New York’s second-round pick in 1993.
The 6-foot-9, 210-pound Wylie, from the University of Miami, was taken in the second round by the Clippers with the 38th overall pick.
Wylie led the Hurricanes in scoring and rebounding the last two years. In 1990-91, he averaged 18.4 points and 10 rebounds.
“If we had had a second-round pick, he would have been our guy,” New York Vice President Ernie Grunfeld said. “We were working on trying to get him the night of the draft and right up to today. Joe is the type of player we’re looking for, who runs the floor well, has speed and quickness and is active on the boards at both ends.”
