CLIPBOARD : May Sales and Use Tax Revenues
In May, the most recent month for which information is available, Orange County cities received a collective $23.4 million in sales and use tax rebates from the state. That was 1% less than last May’s total.
Though the aggregate amount received declined a little, the differences between this May and last differed dramatically from city to city. For example, Newport Beach received nearly 18% less, while the total in Laguna Niguel was 71% higher.
Each month city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month, they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter. The amounts listed here are the third advance payment for the first quarter of 1991.
