U.S. Firms Dominate Fortune List: American companies captured 164 spots on the Fortune magazine list of the biggest global companies, including six of the top 10. Japan ranked second, claiming 111 companies on the list, followed by Britain with 43 and France and Germany each claiming 30 spots. General Motors remained No. 1 in sales, posting revenue of $125.1 billion. But GM was near the bottom in terms of profit; a $1.99-billion loss ranked the company a lowly 485th based on net income.
