Leon Malmed, 53, has been appointed executive vice president of sales and marketing, a new position, at SyQuest Technology Inc., a Fremont, Calif.-based supplier of removable-cartridge Winchester disk drives.

At the same time, SyQuest announced the appointment of Thomas Lyman Chun as vice president of strategy and business development, also a new position.

Before joining SyQuest, Malmed was senior vice president of sales and marketing at PrairieTek Inc., a manufacturer of 2 1/2-inch drives in Longmont, Colo.

Chun, 49, previously was president and chief executive of Cooper Software Inc. Before that, he was co-founder and first chairman of the Corporation for Open Systems.
