Challenge to Proposition 13
In reading Joel Fox’s column (Commentary, June 13) on the subject of Proposition 13, I am rudely awakened to the evils that led to the proposition.
I arrived in Los Angeles in 1946. On one piece of home property, my taxes were raised 100% on two occasions. On a later property, I was hit with a 500% increase. The following year I was again raised 100% over the 500%. I raised my objections to the supervisors and was ignored. My own supervisor even laughed at my complaint.
The defeat of Proposition 13 will bring back the unbridled avarice of our politicians.
