Bad Guys Ace Out a Good ‘Cop’
Looks like school is out early for “Kindergarten Cop,” which was rousted out of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard magazine rental chart by “GoodFellas.” “Cop,” which slipped to No. 2, had all the ingredients of a long-running No. 1 rental hit since it was crowd-pleasing, mass-appeal movie featuring a high-visibility star, Arnold Schwarzenegger. But its quick exit may just be an indication of the enormous popularity of the gangster hit “GoodFellas,” which boasts Joe Pesci’s Oscar-winning performance. The presence of Jeremy Irons, who won a best actor Oscar for “Reversal of Fortune,” is obviously boosting the fortunes of this movie in the home video market. It jumped from No. 36 to No. 13.
* “Edward Scissorhands,” the oddball fairy-tale romance starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder, quickly sliced its way up the chart, debuting at No. 7. This one has No. 1 potential.
